In 1998, I accidentally quit a job in Los Angeles as a magazine editor when the publishing company I worked for decided not to open its new Boulder, Colorado office—a fact I learned while halfway across Nevada during the move here. Instead of u-turning the U-Haul back to LA, I said the heck with it: get to Boulder, figure it out later. Ultimately, that meant going freelance.
I write about outdoor sports, health and fitness, and science and technology, across platforms from print to podcast, blog to video. I also do custom content and copywriting, content strategy, and market research. I contributed to two Bicycling feature packages that were National Magazine Award finalists. I’ve done on-camera work and made numerous media appearances, including on NPR and ESPN, wrote chapters for The Noblest Invention (Rodale Press), and formerly taught a magazine writing class for the University of Colorado’s Continuing Education division.
